I have no idea how this has been possible, but somehow I have managed to keep all the balls in the air with the kids, nutrition and marathon training this cycle.
I don’t throw food, but if I did, I would literally throw these little protein balls to demonstrate. I have made many versions of these over the years, but this latest recipe worked really well.
I used steel cut oats, natural peanut butter, chocolate whey protein powder, agave and chia seeds. The chia seeds get stuck in your teeth, so if you make these and eat them at work, be sure to look in the mirror before you go into a serious meeting.
Instead of adding chocolate chips for my fix, I rolled them in cocoa powder.
The kids have been eating them up, but there is one thing I must warn you about:
If you put them your middle school kid’s lunch, stored in a sandwich bag on a hot day, they will melt. And when they melt, they will resemble dog poop. So the “former” protein balls will be used to gross out friends instead of being eaten. (I warned you.)
Overall, different versions of these are my go-to snack around 4 p.m. when I feel like eating a whole pan of brownies with a fork (I have done that in the past!).
And on the parenting front, my greatest feat to date this cycle is performing a hair cut about five minutes after a hard speed workout.
(I generally put my pajama pants back on after an early-morning treadmill run so I feel like I fit in with the rest of the family. MFP gets really freaked out when he stumbles out of bed and finds out that I’ve already run 12 miles. )
To help me perform my post-run parenting duties, such as haircuts on the fly, I make sure and have a smoothie ready to go, so that I don’t have to sit down and actually shovel food in my mouth with a fork. That can be a real time-waster.
Up later today, I will share with you where I got the above cup.
And if you don’t already “Like me” on Facebook, please go do so now, because I am going to be doing a really cool giveaway there soon. (Hint: it has something to do with the cup, but it is not a cup.)
