Lately I haven’t felt the urge to yell “everyone just needs to shut the eff up!”
As a mom of three boys, that urge hits about twice every day. Once in the morning, and once in the evening.
When it comes, I just silently shuffle myself back into my bedroom and scream into my pillow, before coming up with a smarter, calmer, more sane plan.
That plan would be something like this: “Middle, you need to go up to your room for a few minutes. Oldest, mornings go easier when you plan ahead. And finally, Youngest, it would be so nice if you would stop swinging from the pull-up bar and propelling yourself over the open dishwasher during during these moments of family chaos.”
Now that Oldest is away, this never happens. Middle and Youngest are settling into a relationship not dissimilar to an old married couple. Lots of companionship sprinkled with a fair amount of bickering.
So, that’s kind of sad. I miss the chaos.
I’m going to be one of those old ladies who approaches mothers who are sweating bullets over their tantrum-throwing toddlers in the grocery store.
“Mark my words, sister. You are going to miss these moments someday. Before you know it, that kid will be leaving for college.”
Hopefully I won’t be a finger-pointer. Or a face-spitter. Gross.
But the good news, is that I’ve gotten in a solid week of training:
Saturday: 9.5 miles plus strides
Sunday: Long run, 18 miles @8:14
Monday: 8 miles treadmill @8:00 average + yoga
Tuesday: 6 x 1200 on a grassy field at 5K pace (6:25)
Wednesday: 10 miles + strides + yoga
Thursday: 2 x 3 miles tempo @ 6:59 ish average
Friday: 9.5 miles hills + yoga
And tomorrow, my friends, is a day off.
Have a great weekend!
